Re: 2008 Kansas Deer Hunt
Well, I hate to tell you all but I screwed up.. Ya know .. they just can't make it easy. While reading through all the technical crap and rules I got the impression there were two gun seasons. Well there is but the Oct season is only in Unit 19. The season for where we wanted to hunt is in December. The area 19 is right by Kansascity and It will be a zoo I am sure. So, My appologies. It was a good thought.

I am indeed interested if you have room.
You know you are welcome to come, in fact I very much think all 4 of us would have a great time. I will find out more on the stuff I mentioned hopefully today or tomorrow.
As for a theme.... I hope to be shooting a certain 257-300 if not a 5 panel .257...

Re: 2008 Kansas Deer Hunt
Your tag is good for one unit and an adjacent unit. So we would be in unit 3 and 7 if I read correctly.

Re: 2008 Kansas Deer Hunt
Ok, I have been reading on the KS DNR site. It looks like I was wrong about the doe tag. If you are successful in the draw for the Antlered Derr permit, then you can buy an over the counter Doe tag for $77.00 I will ask my friend about the draw success rate in the next few days. I also plan on checking into the meat processors in the area. Section numbers and get maps for the areas showing the WIHA.

Looks like I'll be gone the whole month of October!! Whitetail in Kansas; onward to Wyoming for Pronghorn and pheasants, back to Upstate NY for Wild Boar, then back home for PA whitetail, pheasants etc....

Re: 2008 Kansas Deer Hunt
Looks like we have interest. Also I will confirm this but I think the draw chances are good, plus I think if you do not get the drawing you can buy an over the counter doe tag.. ( I think,, I will confirm)
Rifle season,
Stay in a motel in a small town, I am getting maps of the Walk in land to hunt. Again I have a friend here that does this every year. He said 160" deer are not uncommon.
I will also check on meat processors.

Re: 2008 Kansas Deer Hunt
Definitely seems like it's worth a try. What are the chances of being drawn the first year of application? I'm successful every other year in Montana. North Dakota is approx. every three years...this'll be my second attempt at North Dakota. During my "off years" I use a guide

2008 Kansas Deer Hunt
Here is the info I have gathered from someone who hunts here and off the Ks web site.
Kansas early firearm season (DMU 19) Oct 11th through Oct 19th.
Application deadline June 2nd
Either sex tag non resident $322.15, $21.00 non refundable if not successful in the draw
I am aquiring an atlas showing the places to hunt. They have a program with the land owners called "Walk in Hunting Allowed" ( WIHA)
Most sections are one mile square plenty of places to hunt ( this is what I have been told) The place that was recommended by a friend was mid Kansas just south of Nebraska line.
So what are your thoughts and questions. I will try to get more info.
