A decent .300

No, no tough fitting. The Steel set up is 2 piece and the trigger guard part has a front mounting screw which required me to add a threaded socket to take this extra screw. Pictures to follow.

Jolly good show my resourceful Wyoming friend! Good call! Did the new bottom metal require additional fitting as you stated? You're definitely turning my old Accumark into something more remarkable than when she left my house for her journey to the Bighorn Mountains. Speaking of lovingly applied, hand-rubbed oil, my stock is coming along very, very nicely. I almost hate to put the metal back on her because the oil finish only gets better with more applications.

The 300 Accu-DeLuxe has been fitted with new to it Bottom metal. I had taken a beater Mark V in trade and as it was going on the auction block I notice it was a first year USA gun with STEEL 2-piece bottom metal. So being the thought fellow that I am, I swapped the bottom off of my 300 and stashed this steel unit until there was time for a proper fitting. As well when this rifle is out of the stock, It indeed got another lovingly applied coat of rubbed oil.

With a 300 yard zero, my 300's shoot under 4" high at the 200 yard mark and is 8.5" low at 400 yards. I've never spent time at a range a high elevations though.

I always zero everything I shoot at 200. Reason being is that 90-95% of the shoots taken are well under 300, and well under 200 so it really is fine, Problem with the 300yd zero is that with cartridges under 3000fps they have to be 4 or so high at 100 to be on at 300, giving a mid range as much as 6" high. That is a sure miss when needing to thread a shoot thru some obstacle or on a quick shot. No thanks.
With the faster rounds in the 3200fps or more then it is still fine. The 300 being 2" high at 100 is less than 1" high at 200 and less than 2" low at 300. At least with the 180tsx at 3200 at 5000feet evelvation. When they shoot tiny little groups it is easy to measure and predict this.

I'd be happy to if I had 3 loads that were so consistent to the same point of impact!! That rifle keeps getting better all the time I'd still sight it in for a 300 yard zero so you don't offend both the rifle AND the great cartridge

I had this rifle out again for some load developement. It shoots the "standard load" very well. I have wanted a light practice load in the 300wby for sometime and have had very mixed results. I think I may have finally found one that will work. In this rifle as least. I also like to have a solid load for all of my front line hunting guns.
Well with this rifle I have found the following;
180tsx w/ 81.5 H4831sc in Nosler brass w/ Fed215m primers
these are 2" high at 100yds
150sp w/ 64 RL15
these hit POI with the above zero
220gr SOLID w/ 60 RL15
these as well hit POI with the 180 zeroed 2" high


I was so pleased that the bore got cleaned and another coat of oil rubbed into the wood.

Man Bighorn, You have built a few of the wood/ stainless fluted modles for me. I think they are awesome looking!! That is a real beauty!! You should be proud of that one!!

This is the former JB Accumark in .300wby. The original B&C stock is now on KCTx's 416 "Swamp Thing". This was a truly ugly stock off of eBay. Bad finish and a hacked up barrel channel. I opened the channel for the #3 barrel and straightened up as best as possible. I stripped the gloss finish and had the checkering redone. I installed a London Guns red pad. It has a 3 step oil finish using the WartHog kit.

The barrel will be blackened and proper sights installed.
